Kate Middleton Reveals How She Achieved Her Honey Blonde Makeover
Kate Middleton revealed just how she got her stunning light brown tresses.
Actress Su Pollard and the Princess of Wales, 43, were seen chatting backstage at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Thursday, November 20, per the Daily Mail. Pollard, 76, then asked Kate about her mane, which made headlines in September for being a few shades lighter than her signature milk chocolate tresses.
“I like your hair, it looks a lot lighter,” Pollard reportedly told Kate.
The princess replied, “It used to be brown, but it’s gone light in the sunshine.”
Kate debuted her blonde hair in August during a family outing to Scotland with Prince William, and their kids, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7. She was photographed through a car, giving fans a glimpse at her sun-kissed tresses.
She later made an appearance at the National History Museum in London, where she fully debuted her new ‘do.
At the time, her hair was parted slightly to the side and styled in big curls, with her roots teased for extra volume. People questioned if the royal was wearing “a wig” via X, or if she had gotten hair extensions.
Kate styled her long coils with a white dress shirt, which she wore underneath a textured brown blazer. She teamed the look with straight pants and a black belt complete with gold hardware. Kate added a touch of sparkle to her look with gold layered necklaces and a statement ring. She opted for a soft glam, including rosy cheeks, filled-in eyebrows and long lashes.
“That’s a wig… she probably lost her hair during cancer treatments,” one wrote at the time, while another commented that her lightened tresses made her look “older.” More trolls “hoped” that the hue was “temporary,” saying they preferred her natural brunette locks.
Hours later, Princess Diana’s longtime hairstylist, Sam McKnight, then defended Kate’s look, writing via Instagram, “I am shocked, horrified, dismayed and disgusted by all the nasty comments about the Princess of Wales today.”
His statement continued, “A woman’s hair is very personal to her, it’s armor, defense, confidence and so much more. I cannot believe how evil and lacking in any kind of empathy are the comments, the majority made apparently by other women, attacking a vulnerable other young woman, who has no choice, by dint of who she married and the role she took on, to bravely face the public.”
The hairdresser went on to say that he’s “sure” Kate would “rather be away from the public arena.”
“She has brilliantly and quietly, unselfishly represented our country, the soft power we still have as a nation,” he wrote. “Cancer affects individuals differently, but is life changing for everyone. So FFS LEAVE HER ALONE. SHAME ON YOU.”
Later in September, Kate dyed her hair back to brown.
The princess’ hair transformations come after she announced that she was diagnosed with cancer in 2024. After undergoing treatment, including chemotherapy, she shared that she was in remission in January.
