Do Boq and Nessarose End Up Together in Wicked: For Good?

Boq and Nessarose found an unexpected romance in the first Wicked movie — but where do they stand after the second film?

This post has spoilers for Wicked: For Good.

Boq (Ethan Slater) first asked Nessarose (Marissa Bode) to dance when many of the Shiz University students enjoyed a night out at the Ozdust Ballroom in 2024’s Wicked.

“Uh, Nessa / I’ve got something to confess / A reason why, well/ Why I asked you here tonight,” Boq sings in a “Dancing Through Life” verse. “I asked you / Because you are so beautiful!”

Nessa responds, “Oh, Boq, I think you’re wonderful / And we deserve each other /Don’t you see? This is our chance / We deserve each other / Don’t we, Boq?”

Wicked, of course, ended on a cliffhanger before For Good picked up with the latest updates on Boq, Nessa and the rest of the Ozian crew. Keep scrolling to find out what happened with Boq and Nessarose’s love story:

What Happens to Nessarose in ‘Wicked’ 2?

When the movie opens, Nessarose is the new governor of Munchkinland after her and Elphaba’s dad’s shocking death. She is still dating Boq, who wants the freedom to be able to leave. Instead, Nessa signs a proclamation essentially barring any munchkins from leaving the neighborhood.

When Boq tries to leave again, Nessa attempts to do a magic spell — despite no training or powers — that doesn’t work and leaves him in heart pain. Elphaba steps in, performing a new spell that turns Boq into the Tin Man. With his life no longer in the balance, Boq-as-the-Tin-Man is free to leave Munchkinland.

Do Boq and Nessarose End Up Together in ‘Wicked: For Good’?

Later in For Good, Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) magically concocts a tornado to storm through Oz. The house, just like in The Wizard of Oz and the Wicked musical, lands on top of Nessarose and her sparkly shoes.

Nessa’s death meant that, no, she and Boq didn’t get another chance to be together.

What Has Marissa Bode Said About Her Character’s Journey?

Nessarose’s death follows her breakout solo, “The Wicked Witch of the East.”

“I am very, very nervous — especially because I know a lot of people express their love for that song,” Bode exclusively told Us Weekly ahead of the movie’s premiere. “It’s not on the original Broadway album, I believe, and it is on this [soundtrack], so there’s a lot of pressure there, for sure. I hope I did it justice, and I hope audiences enjoy [the performance].”

According to Bode, she was “happy” with Nessa’s onscreen arc.

How Did Ethan Slater Transform From Boq Into the Tin Man?

“[It took] four hours with the hair, the wigs, the straw and everything, the prosthetics and the hands, and then the costume came afterwards,” makeup artist Frances Hannon exclusively told Us in November 2025 about how Slater and Jonathan Bailey became the Tin Man and Scarecrow, respectively. “It was really so moving. And I think it really brings something very special to Wicked: For Good.”

Hannon further revealed that the final transformation was “phenomenal” to behold.

“The design was amazing, both Ethan and Jonathan were really moved by it all,” she told Us. “I think it really helps to see the visual, but what I find the beauty of it is they’re all done practically, but it fills the screen in the IMAX, and you can’t tell one single thing. It’s absolutely perfect.”

Wicked: For Good is currently in theaters.
