Emily in Paris’ Ashley Park Promises ‘Best Is Yet to Come’ in Season 5
While Netflix has offered a glimpse at season 5 of Emily in Paris, star Ashley Park teased that fans can still expect plenty of fun surprises.
“What I’ll say is that was a teaser and that was only in Rome,” Park, 34, who plays Mindy Chen, exclusively told Us Weekly while attending the Netflix House Philadelphia VIP Housewarming Party on Monday, November 10. “We also filmed in Paris and Venice so that was truly a teaser.”
Park can’t wait for viewers to see the official trailer before the show returns on December 18.
“This gives you a taste of the tone and what you can be excited for in the first couple of episodes,” she added. “But there’s a lot more. The best is yet to come.”
The Netflix series, which premiered in 2020, centers around Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) and her often hilarious attempts to find her footing in France after moving from the U.S. for a new job. Emily subsequently ends up caught in a love triangle between Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount).
Emily intentionally started season 4 by choosing Gabriel but it ended as quickly as it started. Emily ended the season by moving on with Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) in Rome and she wasn’t the only one going on new adventures.
Fan-favorite Mindy (who is Emily’s best friend) was presented with an opportunity to perform for a crowd in Rome in the season 4 finale, which aired in September 2024. That led to a job offer which took Mindy away from Paris — before she was set to reunite with Emily in Italy.
“Coming into season 5 that we’re about to release, it’s been over half a decade [since the show debuted],” Park told Us. “Me and Lily were just talking about that the other day. We’ve known each other for half a decade and it’s interesting to step into the shoes of a character where it’s a couple days later but you’ve grown as a person six months to a year [between seasons].”
Park gushed about her experience on Emily in Paris.
“This show has completely changed my life in terms of the pathways and the conversations I get to be a part of,” she noted. “I get to have conversations with people around the world because of Netflix being global. I’m very grateful.”
Season 5 will be going through some changes with Emily making the move to Rome. Creator Darren Star previously shut down fan concerns that Emily in Paris would now be Emily in Rome but the series has found ways to expand — and Park wouldn’t mind more trips for the characters.
“All I know is not Emily in Space. I don’t need to go to space,” she quipped to Us about possible scenarios for story lines in the future. “I’ll go anywhere else. Preferably a beach.”
Emily in Paris returns Thursday, December 18, on Netflix.
