Maraq Digaag (Spiced Chicken Soup)

This is my recipe for maraq digaag, which is a spiced chicken soup made in many Somali households. It’s a favorite from my childhood and something that was made often by my hooyo — also known as my mother. The soup is thick and filling thanks to the addition of potatoes, and it has small hints of heat due to the jalapeno. I turned to the soup when I’m feeling sick, and I’m really in need of something nourishing to bring me back to good health.
