Selena Gomez Debuts a Bob With Bangs and Roasts Her ‘Willy Wonka’ Look
Selena Gomez is always up for a hair change.
Gomez, 33, showed off a new hairstyle — and even joked about her look — via Instagram on Sunday, October 13. In the pic, she debuted blunt bangs that were cut slightly above her eyebrows and blown out over her forehead. The rest of her sleek brown hair was parted down the middle and styled in a bouncy bob, cut above her jawline.
“I wonder if Willy Wonka is hiring,” she playfully captioned the post, poking fun at her mane, which she seemingly felt closely resembled Johnny Depp’s hair in the 2005 movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
The actress teamed her new ‘do with a full beat, including winged eyeliner, filled-in eyebrows, long lashes and coral pink lips. She completed her makeup with blushed cheeks and a touch of pink eyeshadow blended into her inner corner. She tied her look together with a white T-shirt finished with a scoop neckline.
Gomez previously cut her hair ahead of her wedding with Benny Blanco on September 27. For her big day, she chopped her tresses slightly past her shoulders. Styled by Renato Campora, her mane was parted to the side and worn down.
Campora opened up to Harper’s Bazaar about her look, sharing, “In preparing Selena’s hair for a celebration of joy, unity, and love, every detail had to be perfect.”
He started her hairstyle by double-cleansing her strands with the Joico Defy Dastylishmage Protective Shampoo. Next, he gave her a half-hour treatment with the Joico Defy Damage KBOND20 Power Masque. “This powerful combination resets the hair by removing buildup and thoroughly cleansing the hair,” he explained.
Before styling her hair, he used the Joico JoiWhip Design Foam and worked the product into her tresses by blowdrying her hair with a large round brush, which he later pinned up as it cooled for a bouncy blowout.
“I created a deep side part and continued this technique across the entire head to achieve a voluminous and polished base,” Campora said. “Once cooled, the hair is noticeably shiny, bouncy, and full of life.”
He gave her even more of an Old Hollywood look by using a curling iron to create a slight wave. “Special attention was given to the face-framing pieces, which are shaped to highlight and enhance the facial structure,” Campora noted.
To make sure her hair lasted all night, Campora sprayed Gomez’s locks with Joico hairspray.
“The final result: a flawless, timeless, healthy-looking Hollywood Glamour Marcel Wave Bob for a day that celebrates love, beauty, and perfection,” Campora gushed.
Throughout the years, Gomez has sported a number of hairstyles. In 2007, she experimented with a touch of color in her brunette hair with a bright blue highlight, which she debuted at a Teen Vogue Party.
In 2010, the singer started to grow her hair out to her chest while filming Wizards of Waverly Place. Three years later, she added caramel highlights to her mane in 2013 before going back to black in 2015.
Perhaps Gomez’s boldest hair change to date was in 2017, when she debuted a platinum blonde look in London, finished with an ashy root. She later went back to brunette before adding a balayage to her tresses in 2023.
