Leighton Meester Returns to The CW After More Than a Decade
As The CW is putting it, “the queen is back.”
Next month, Leighton Meester will make her return to The CW as Lou Hickman, one half of a brother-sister detective team, in the new dramedy Good Cop/Bad Cop.
Meester last starred in a CW show from 2007 to 2012 when she played queen of the Upper East Side, Blair Waldorf, in Gossip Girl.
According to The CW, Meester and Luke Cook, who plays Meester’s younger brother, are “working as detectives in a small town navigate quirky locals, limited resources, their strained relationship, and their father, who’s the police chief.”
In an interview shared on The CW’s Instagram page, Meester said she’s “excited to be working with The CW again. I feel like I’ve had a lot of experience working with them for many years in the past and they know what they are doing.”
Meester praised The CW for having a “really good eye finding that mixture of campy comedy drama that I think we are trying to achieve,” she said of her new show.
According to Good Cop/Bad Cop’s reator and showrunner John Quaintance, he told Parade that the show lives “somewhere between Fargo and the Knives Out movies, with the joke count and fast banter of Moonlighting.”
“This cast has delivered on every front, with compelling twisty romances and hard-earned moments of family healing and connection that are genuinely moving,” he continued, adding that he’s “never had more fun working on anything.”
Also making a guest appearance in the show is Meester’s real life husband, Adam Brody, whom she shares two kids with.
While on the Golden Globes red carpet this month, Meester and Brody admitted that they often talk about working together, admitting that it “comes up a lot.”
“Almost everything we do, they are like ‘Would your husband or wife want to be in this as well?’ So we get a lot of opportunities,” Brody said.
“We almost have to resist more than we have to seek it out,” Meester added.
In the end, Meester said she has a good idea for the type of project she would like to work on with her husband but added that “it’s top secret.”
