Anyone who knows me knows I’m a big-time gym girlie who aims to hit her body weight in grams of protein. Whether that means staying up to meal prep or spending a little extra at the grocery store, I always have high-protein meals and snacks on hand to support my training. Yes, it’s a hassle, but it’s a hassle well worth it!
When it comes to pre-made snacks, I’m also a big-time ingredient snob — especially when it comes to protein bars. If something has too many chemicals, hard-to-pronounce ingredients, added sugars or saturated fats, I won’t be buying. The protein-to-calorie ratio also has to be close to one gram of protein for every 10 calories — as a general rule of thumb — to ensure I’m getting the biggest bang for my buck. In case you can’t tell, I’m as picky as it gets!
And yes, of course, the taste is important. The snack has to be “worth it” in terms of price, calories and value — that is, how much high-quality protein I’m actually getting. While I typically opt for whey or milk protein-derived bars, I’ve been obsessed with these vegan protein bars that you’d never know are vegan. They taste like a decadent treat — without any guilt!
These caramel fudge bars are made with pea and soy protein isolates, dairy-free chocolate and vegan caramel, but here’s the kicker: they’re completely free of sugar! Unlike most protein bars on the market, which are candy bars in disguise, natural (sugar-free) sweeteners give these bars their dessert-like taste. It’s a dream come true for sweets lovers with protein and health goals to reach.
In addition to having less than one gram of sugar, the bars are made with very little saturated fat — only three grams. They’re also packed with five grams of hunger-curbing fiber and 15 grams of protein! It’s a satisfying snack, to say the least; you’ll probably prefer it over your current go-to dessert. The texture is chewy and soft, perfect for candy lovers, chocoholics and and baked good connoisseurs.
Even if you aren’t a chocolate and caramel fan, there are four other swoon-worthy flavors to choose from: cookie butter, brownie batter, peanut butter and cookie dough. All of the flavors have between 14 and 15 grams of protein and only 190 calories, so they’re pretty darn close to the protein-to-calorie ratio I shoot for. Each pack comes with 15 bars, too, so consider your snack, dessert, breakfast and 3 p.m. slump needs covered.
