101 Tips to Improve Your Life From Martha Stewart and More Stars

Sleep struggles, bad hair days, stress: no matter who you are, there are just some issues that plague us all — even our favorite celebrities.

“Our worth and our beauty isn’t dependent, necessarily, on how our hair looks. Actually, a bad hair day can be a good opportunity for you to sit with an uncomfortable feeling and see what that brings up for you and see why you feel this way,” Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness shares in the latest Us Weekly cover story, on newsstands now. “If you can accept something — not saying you’re going to accept something that’s bad forever — but if you can just accept it for that day, it’s like throw it up, put it in a little clip, put it in a little twist. Try again the next day because it’s OK. We all have bad hair days. I’ve had many a bad hair day in my route to learning how to style my hair.”

Van Ness — a renowned hairstylist with their own haircare line — was just one of 101 celebs and experts we asked for words of wisdom.

“I’m a very good homemaker, and I’ve learned all the tricks,” Martha Stewart told Us. “I think people should pay attention to their home more than they do and learn the little things, like how to dry your shower with a towel that you just dried yourself with.”

If You Gossip, You’ll be Gossiped About

8. “One of the things I say the most while raising my daughter the last 18 years is a dog that brings a bone, carries a bone. Bad Hair, Don’t Care

11. “Our worth and our beauty isn’t dependent, necessarily, on how our hair looks. Actually, a bad hair day can be a good opportunity for you to sit with an uncomfortable feeling and see what that brings up for you and see why you feel this way. I remember in yoga when I was 12, this idea of what you resist persists and what you accept flows. If you can accept something — not saying you’re going to accept something that’s bad forever — but if you can just accept it for that day, it’s like throw it up, put it in a little clip, put it in a little twist. Try again the next day because it’s OK. We all have bad hair days. I’ve had many a bad hair day in my route to learning how to style my hair.” –Queer Eye’s

Take Criticism With a Grain of Salt

16. “I’ve had quite the journey with criticism over the last few years. When I’ve had those moments where I have felt heavily criticized, I take a minute and consider the source. There’s a great quote: ‘Don’t take advice from people who are not in the arena, do not listen to criticism from people who are not in the arena.’ That’s been very helpful to me. I don’t think that all criticism is bad, but I think the society we’re living in today, the first thing we do is criticize. It’s as if we have lost the ability to see the light in something. The first thing we do is find fault. So I just don’t listen to criticism from people who are not in the arena anymore.” –Ariana DeBose

Don’t Give Up

17. “Just because something doesn’t happen right away doesn’t mean that it won’t down the road. It’s always good to not naysay things that don’t come to fruition. 93. How to pour the perfect beer: “The sommelier version in the beer world is a cone. If you take a cone course, they tell you to angle the beer at 60 degrees and pour in half the beer, then turn slightly as it finishes pouring. But now I’ve been seeing things on TikTok where people say all the gas is held within the beer, which makes me question hard pouring. The other option: Pour half, it’ll foam like crazy. Let it settle and then do it again. All of the gas is gone and you won’t feel so bloated. I’m kind of shook by this new way of pouring beer. So, dealer’s choice.” –Southern Charm’s Austen Kroll

94. “[When hosting a party] serve foods that you can set up ahead of time. Get ’em done. Chicken wings — hot chicken wings, not so hot. They’re fine. Throw them in an air fryer — probably one of the biggest party
supporting players there is.” –Guy Fieri

Make ‘Em Laugh

95. “You’ve got to really commit to whatever the bit is, the joke you’re telling, or a voice you’re doing. Really, really commit. Commit as if your life depends on it and then that sort of becomes funny — how hard you’re trying.” –Hank Azaria

96. “Pin them down to the ground and tickle them right in the ribs! That’s the best way to do it for me.” –“Weird Al” Yankovic

97. “Make yourself laugh. Just be specific, but do it for yourself. If you try to make other people laugh, that’s too hard to leap. But if you make yourself laugh, at least you’re partway there. And if you don’t make other people laugh, at least you’ve made yourself laugh.” –The Simpsons
creator Matt Groening

98. “Try anything. Just keep going and try anything — release ridiculous songs and comedy albums. Just keep being weird.” –Jimmy Fallon

Personal Growth

99. “A lot of us think we’re done growing at a point. And you’re not … A grandmother of mine, she’s 95, and I remember her telling me that someone who was 75 was young. She was like, ‘Oh, they’re young. They’re just 75. They don’t know.’ That sticks
with me.” –Quinta Brunson

100. “If you fail, don’t give up. That’s huge as an actor, and it’s also great in life because you really have to put yourself out there and not be afraid of presenting your best self and then having someone be like, ‘That’s not the right fit for us.’ But you still continue to show up.” -actress Caylee Cowan

101. “As you’re going to sleep, ask yourself what went well today. In the DNA of our brains, we’re very attuned to hang on to the negative because it’s a lesson. ‘Oh, I’m not going to do that again.’ We’re not very attuned to remembering what’s good because it’s not a survival tool. But if you train your brain to remember what’s good, you’ll be a more positive person.” –Teri Hatcher
