Joanna “JoJo” Levesque may be best known for her early 2000s hits like “Too Little, Too Late” and “Leave (Get Out),” but after catching up with the singer over Zoom, I couldn’t help but think that more people should be asking her for her skincare routine. Even though her little video icon was just a small dot on the screen, I could see that her skin sparkled like glass.

“We’ve been through a lot together in my 33 years on earth so far,” JoJo laughs, referring to her complexion. “It’s a little emotional but also resilient.”

While Aquamarine was once the pinnacle of millennial girls’ childhoods, star Joanna “JoJo” Levesque secretly struggled behind the scenes. “I was 14 when we went to Australia and filmed it. It was so cool. That was my first big movie that I had done,” JoJo, 33, recalled during the Wednesday, September 18, episode of “The […]

In fact, her skin has been extra emotional recently. After making the cross-country move from LA to NYC and appearing in Broadway’s Moulin Rouge, the climate change immediately started wreaking havoc on her skin. “I’m realizing that I need to focus on hydration living here — particularly when it comes to winter because my skin needs a little extra love to stay bouncy.”

While it has taken some trial and error, JoJo has found the right combination to keep her skin soft and healthy. She relies on just three products (four if we’re counting sunscreen in the morning), all of which are from Fresh. “I have absolutely learned that less is more for me, and I don’t need a billion steps,” she explains. “Keeping it as natural as possible and focusing on high-quality, intentional ingredients is what works for me.”

JoJo’s routine starts with the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser. “I used to be a ‘take-my-makeup-off-with-wipes girl’ and I’ve learned the hard way that that’s just not gonna cut it,” she tells me“This has been a staple of mine for a while. I just started to understand that if I wanted my makeup to look great, my skin needed to be a priority.”

Most people don’t enjoy cleaning (guilty!), but JoJo adores it because she’s turned washing her face into a self-care practice. “I try to take at least 60 seconds to make sure I’m really getting in there because, for a while, I was struggling with breakouts,” she explains. “Now, instead of rushing through it, I find a moment of pleasure and enjoyment in the ritual.”

Once fully cleansed and grounded, JoJo follows with the Fresh Kombucha Facial Treatment Essence. “This might be my favorite product ever,” she raves. “With my focus on hydration and supporting the aging process as opposed to running away from it, this keeps my skin bouncy and hydrated.” She then finishes her routine with the Fresh Black Tea Advanced Age Renewal Cream, a rich moisturizer that boosts collagen production while also infusing skin with nourishing squalane and ceramides.

This simple three-step formula has made a world of difference in JoJo’s skin, but she also emphasizes the importance of being present and treating her routine as a ritual. “It’s all about making little pockets of peace and slowing down for just five minutes,” she says. “[It’s easy to] get in the habit of rushing out the door and multitasking. Carving out those little moments of presence — like while washing your face — is something anyone can do with just 60 seconds.”

So, the key to glowing healthy skin in JoJo’s book? Simplicity and presence — something we could all use more of. You can get a jump start on the simplicity aspect with Fresh’s botanical skincare offerings. Shop JoJo’s favorites (as well as the entire line) at Nordstrom.
