Crystal King Minkoff Thinks Teddi Mellencamp Should Address Divorce
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Crystal Kung Minkoff is getting real about Teddi Mellencamp’s public comments about her divorce.
“I don’t think it’s a requirement for a podcast to be open and vulnerable. Every podcast is different,” Minkoff, 41, exclusively told Us Weekly at The Abbey’s 15th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Sunday, December 1. “But do I think Teddi should be required? Yes.”
Days after announcing her divorce from Edwin Arroyave, Mellencamp, 43, appeared on her iHeartRadio “Two Ts in a Pod” podcast to address the breakup.
“At this point, I’m obviously only gonna share what I shared on social media,” she told cohost Tamra Judge on November 5. “I just am trying — I don’t even know how to say this eloquently, but I’m just trying my hardest to make sure that my kids’ privacy is protected right now and that we’re able to have all of these conversations.”
Mellencamp and Arroyave, who tied the knot in 2011, share three children: Slate, Dove and Cruz. (Arroyave also welcomed daughter Isabella in a previous relationship.)
While Minkoff has compassion and empathy for Mellencamp’s children, she remembers her former Bravo costar speaking freely about other people’s relationship struggles over the years.
“I think if Teddi’s gonna come after everybody, she should open up more,” Minkoff told Us. “My thing is, I don’t really care personally, but I don’t do that to people. That’s not expected of me. I am super honest and open in general.”
She continued, “I care about her children, so I don’t want that at the end. But I do hope that she adjusts herself in the future, handling other people’s personal affairs. That’s what I hope for her. I don’t need her to expose any of it. That’s their personal life. But I want her to have a little more grace for other people. That’s what I would like.”
In a previous podcast episode, Mellencamp acknowledged that she often talks about other Bravo stars’ lives. At the same time, she planned to keep the discussion of her own split to a minimum because of her children.
“Being somebody who recaps other people’s things, [it’s like], ‘Don’t be a hypocrite, Teddi,’” she said. “But when it does come to this and children, I think there’s just room … it’s a little bit different than getting into ‘Jen Aydin reveals text exchange with Andy Cohen.’”
This holiday season, Minkoff continues to discover what the podcast world has to offer with her own show called “Humble Brag with Crystal and Cynthia.” Joined by The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey, the pair share their perspective on the week’s hottest topics and give behind-the-scenes insight into reality TV.
“We are from two different worlds, two different backgrounds, two different franchises, but when we sit down in those chairs, I had no idea how much we actually had in common,” Bailey, 57, previously told Us at the 1st Annual Gurus Awards. “Our chemistry is undeniable. … This podcast has given me an opportunity to really just have a platform to really talk about things that Crystal and I just want to talk about and all in a good way. It’s all coming from love and positivity.”
