Kristin Cavallari Remembers ‘Wild Ride’ of Dating Nick Lachey
Kristin Cavallari had a brief — but memorable — romance with Nick Lachey following his divorce from Jessica Simpson.
“I had so many paparazzi following my every move, waiting outside my house,” the Laguna Beach alum, 37, said of her and Lachey’s high-profile romance on the Monday, November 25, episode of her “Let’s Be Honest” podcast. “And that was the first time I experienced that.”
Cavallari recalled being either 18 or 19 years old when she and the 98 Degrees frontman, now 51, dated. (Lachey was 33 years old at the time.)
“It was wild. It was a lot,” she reflected. “He had just gotten a divorce from Jessica Simpson. So this was like the biggest thing in 2000 … [it] must have been like 2006. And it was a wild ride.”
Lachey and Simpson, now 44, were married from 2002 to 2006. The pair, who had their own MTV reality show titled Newlyweds, called it quits after four years of marriage.
While Cavallari received a lot of attention being linked to Lachey, she remembered being constantly compared to Simpson. It became particularly frustrating when she found herself being accused of “stealing” Simpson’s poses on the red carpet.
“Stealing her red carpet poses? There’s like four f—ing poses you can do on the red carpet,” she said. “Like, my hand on my hip? You think I’m stealing her poses? Like, what?”
Cavallari and Lachey’s relationship was brief and the twosome have remained cordial over the years as they moved on. Cavallari wed Jay Cutler in 2013 after three years of dating. The pair share sons Camden, 12, and Jaxon, 10, and daughter Saylor, 8. In April 2020, Cavallari and Cutler, now 41, divorced after seven years of marriage.
Lachey, for his part, tied the knot with wife Vanessa Lachey in 2011. The couple share three children: sons Camden, 11, and Phoenix, 7, and daughter Brooklyn, 9.
In 2014, Nick and Cavallari reunited nearly a decade after their romance and teased each other for their children sharing a name. During an appearance on VH1’s Big Morning Buzz, the singer congratulated Cavallari on her pregnancy. (She was expecting Jaxon at the time.)
“Camden’s going to be a great brother!” she shared to which Nick teased, “Wait, your baby’s name’s Camden? I had no idea!”
Cavallari played along with Nick and jokingly replied, “Yeah, I didn’t think you had a clue!”
When the exes both welcomed their respective Camdens in 2012, Cavallari pointed out the coincidence after the Lacheys shared their exciting news.
“Apparently Camden is a popular name!” Cavallari tweeted. She later clarified she didn’t mean to come off rude after fans gave her a hard time online.
“By the way, that wasn’t a bitchy tweet at all,” she explained. “I obviously love the name and I’m glad other people do too.”
