Jason Kelce Performs New Holiday Song With Mt. Joy at Eagles Game
Jason Kelce brought the holiday spirit when he performed his new Christmas song with Mt. Joy, “Santa Drives an Astrovan,” ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders game.
The retired NFL star, 37, joined the indie rock band — comprised of members Matt Quinn, Sam Cooper, Sotiris Eliopoulos, Jackie Miclau and Michael Byrnes — for a concert in Lincoln Financial Field’s Pepsi Plaza before the Thursday, November 14, game in Philadelphia.
“What’s up everybody! Thank y’all for coming out,” Kelce told the crowd, according to a fan video posted on X. “This goes a long way to help me promote this album which is going to help a lot of families around this area around the holidays. So thank you so much for supporting.”
Kelce proceeded to use a banana shaker as an instrument before taking the microphone for his verse. He later threw a giant teddy bear to a fan as the crowd roared along with the song.
The song is the latest single from Kelce’s upcoming holiday album, A Philly Special Christmas Party, which is set to be released on November 29. The third annual project once again brings Kelce together with his former Eagles teammates, Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson, to raise money for Philadelphia-area charities.
Earlier this week, Jason shared his apprehension about the live performance with Mt. Joy during the Wednesday, November 13, episode of his and brother Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast.
“I don’t know if this is the right thing to do,” he said. “The Eagles are about to play, like, the most important game of the year. They’re playing the Washington Commanders, and me and Mt. Joy are gonna go in there before the game kicks off and perform a Christmas song because we wanna help raise money for the album.”
Jason then revealed that the performance had turned into a bigger deal than originally anticipated.
“We initially were like, ‘We’re just gonna do something in the parking lot. It’ll be fun. Just to get it on video to help promote it,’” he explained. “And somehow it’s turned into we full-on have a stage in the Linc … and we’re just gonna be performing this song right before the most important game of the Eagles’ season to date takes place.”
When Travis, 35, told Jason, “You better make it epic,” Jason replied, “My voice is shot.”
Travis proceeded to suggest that Jason try whiskey and honey ahead of his performance.
“How do you know so much about vocal soothing?” Jason asked, giving a nod to Travis’ relationship with Taylor Swift.
“I’ve read up on it,” Travis responded as the brothers broke out in fits of laughter.
Earlier this month, Jason released his “Maybe This Christmas” duet with Stevie Nicks as the first single from A Philly Special Christmas Party. The track ultimately dethroned Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” as the No. 1 Christmas song on the charts.
“I’ve fought my whole life to be the queen of Christmas, and the fact that we’re finally there is just really special,” Jason joked during Wednesday’s podcast.
“It was incredible to work with Stevie Nicks. I mean, obviously, I just am still in awe of the fact that that actually happened. This is really, really cool,” he added. “I mean, there is no percent chance any song that I am in should be streaming No. 1 on any service, in any genre.”
Travis then reminded Jason, “Well, don’t give yourself too much credit. It’s Stevie Nicks,” with Jason agreeing, “That’s exactly right.”
