Tom Brady Is Selling a Blood-Soaked Jersey, Other Memorabilia Items

As Tom Brady closes one chapter of his professional career, his fans can reap the benefits — at a steep cost. 

Brady, 47, is selling a plethora of iconic memorabilia items from the past three decades of his life via Sotheby’s “The GOAT Collection: Watches & Treasures from Tom Brady” auction. 

In addition to numerous watches, the future NFL of Famer is auctioning off shoulder pads worn in the Super Bowl as quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a tracksuit worn in a Dunkin’ commercial and a bunch of game-worn jerseys from his time with the New England Patriots and at the University of Michigan. 

“What’s amazing about a jersey is you wear it all season,” Brady told Sotheby’s in a story published Tuesday, October 29. “It has blood, sweat, tears and incredible memories embedded in the fabric.”

The auction features the jersey Brady wore as quarterback for Michigan in the 2000 Orange Bowl, a 35-34 victory over the University of Alabama. Sotheby’s estimates the jersey will fetch between $150,000 and $250,000. 

“My Orange Bowl jersey is particularly special to me,” Brady said. “This win and performance springboarded me into a 23-year NFL career, now broadcasting and hopefully NFL ownership. Looking back, this was the defining moment in my college career.”

Brady signed a 10-year, $375 million contract with Fox Sports in May 2022 before making his highly-anticipated broadcast debut in September. 

“I’m signifying a step out of my playing career, and recognizing that others will cherish these items the way I value the ones in my collection,” Brady said of the auction. “This is the only time this will happen, so hopefully people will take advantage of the opportunity to put something so meaningful of mine into their own collections.”

The auction also includes the watch Brady wore at May’s The Roast of Tom Brady, which streamed live on Netflix. 

“My friend [former Audemars Piguet CEO François-Henry Bennahmias] texted me out of the blue and said, ‘I want to create something for you. Why don’t you work with my friend and designer at Audemars Piguet, Michael Friedman, and figure out what you want to come up with?’” Brady recalled. “At the time, I was like, ‘We’re not doing that.’”

Brady continued, “He convinced me to do it, and I wore it for the Netflix roast, which was such a fun event.”

The watch has an estimated auction price between $400,000 and $800,000.

Perhaps the most unique item available is a helmet that Brady wore after signing with the Buccaneers in March 2020 after spending the first 20 seasons of his NFL career with the New England Patriots. Brady would initially announce his retirement in March 2022 after two seasons with Tampa Bay, before revealing plans to return for another year. He ultimately retired for good at the end of the 2022-’23 season. 

“I couldn’t get a helmet made because it was during Covid,” Brady explained. 

So, Brady was forced to rip the decals off one of his old Patriots helmets as he prepared to join his new team. 

“I laugh when I see that helmet.” Brady said. “I wore it for an entire off-season, and it was a big part of the end of my playing career.”

The helmet is estimated to garner at least $40,000.

“The GOAT Collection: Watches & Treasures from Tom Brady” auction will be held December 10 at Sotheby’s New York.
