Dax Shepard Reacts to Wife Kristen Bell and Adam Brody’s Chemistry

Dax Shepard can’t deny the chemistry his wife, Kristen Bell, has with her Nobody Wants This costar Adam Brody.

“We watched that scene together, the kissing scene, which I’d argue is the very best kissing scene ever, ever put on film,” Shepard, 49, said at the New Yorker Festival via People on Saturday, October 26. “And my best friend, Aaron, from childhood, he goes, ‘Does she ever kiss you like that?’ No, I didn’t even know she could kiss like that.”

When asked about his own chemistry with his wife of nearly 11 years, Shepard playfully admitted that he has some competition.

“Not as good as her and Brody,” he joked.

Nobody Wants This follows an agnostic sex podcaster (Bell) and a newly single rabbi (Brody) as they fall in love. Their bond is put to the test, however, as they tackle meddling families and very different lives.

When the show’s first season was released on Netflix in September, Bell, 44, discussed the chemistry she shared with Brody, also 44.

“Even I can acknowledge watching it, like, ‘Whoa, that’s hot,’” she told e-talk before the premiere. “My husband said the same thing. Like, watching the first episode he was like, ‘Oh, my God, I want you to kiss him so badly.’”

After being an actress for many years, Bell — who shares daughters Lincoln, 11, and Delta, 9, with Shepard — shared her theory as to how some Hollywood costars can simply click when the cameras start rolling.

“I’m not trying to be reductive, but I think there’s a math to it,” she said. “You have two actors that know how to stare dopily into each other’s eyes, and you have to have the confidence to expand that and really sit the anticipatory value before the kiss, which I think is really important.”

As fans wait for any clues about season 2, which was confirmed by Netflix on October 10, series creator Erin Foster is hopeful this isn’t the last time viewers will see Bell and Brody’s innocent connection on screen.

Netflix’s Nobody Wants This draws curious parallels to show creator Erin Foster’s real life. The 10-episode romantic comedy follows the love story of agnostic, outspoken sex podcaster Joanne (Kristen Bell) and unconventional rabbi Noah (Adam Brody), who is canonically nicknamed “Hot Rabbi.” Despite the duo’s immediate chemistry and attraction, all of their family members and […]

After all, she knows the audience wants to see more of this unconventional love story.

“They just have, like, unreal chemistry,” she told TV Line in September about Brody and Bell. “It’s crazy because they’re friends in real life. They don’t have that chemistry off camera. There’s no, like, sexual tension on set, and then the camera goes, and it’s like, ‘Holy s—!’ It’s really there.”

Nobody Wants This is available to stream on Netflix.
