Matthew Perry’s House Sells for $8.5 Million, One Year After Death
One year after his untimely death, Matthew Perry’s home has a new owner.
The Friends star’s former Los Angeles property was sold for $8.5 million, according to property records obtained by the New York Times.
Perry bought the home, built in 1965, in 2020 for $6 million. The 3500-square-foot property, located in L.A.’s Pacific Palisades, has four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms, per records..
Its new owner is Anita Verma-Lallian, a movie producer and the founder of Arizona Land Consulting. She purchased the home as an investment property in the off-market deal, per the New York Times.
Perry died on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54. The famous sitcom actor was found unresponsive in a hot tub in his backyard, and died later on. Since his death, it was announced that he had opioids in his system, and that his death was caused by “acute effects of ketamine.” This was after it was previously thought that his cause of death was drowning.
Since his death, five people have been charged for allegedly giving him drugs. On Wednesday, October 2, Dr. Mark Chavez pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute ketamine. He is the third out of the five to plead guilty, and faces up to 10 years in prison. The other two have pleaded not guilty.
Perry’s mother, Suzanne Morrison, spoke out on the Today Show in an interview posted Friday, October 25, about her last days with the actor.
“He went through a period, interestingly enough, just before he died when he was showing me one of his new houses,” said Morrison. “He came up to me and he said, ‘I love you so much, and I’m so happy to be with you now. And I’m so…’ It was almost as though it was a premonition or something. I didn’t think about it at the time, but I thought, ‘How long has it been since we’ve had a conversation like that?’ It’s been years.”
Perry’s sister Caitlin Morrison also recently opened up about her late brother.
“He had this ability to fill up a room with light,” said Caitlin Morrison, speaking to Hello! Canada on October 23. “When people were in a room with [him], there was this magnetic energy. Everybody just had a smile on their face, and they clung to everything that he said.”
Caitlin Morrison and her father, Dateline’s Keith Morrison (Perry’s stepfather) created The Matthew Perry Foundation of Canada in honor of their family member. According to the foundations website, the foundation “supports organizations that are directly tackling addiction within their communities.”
“When [Matthew] suddenly died, it was incredibly shocking,” said Keith. “Anybody who has lost a child will tell you that, even if you are in some way prepared for the possibility, it’s shattering. What we have decided to do is hang on to that determination and try to do something useful.”
