Grotesquerie’s Micaela Diamond Teases Season Finale Easter Eggs

Ahead of Grotesquerie‘s season finale, Micaela Diamond teased how everything comes together — and hinted that fans might want to rewatch the show to spot the major Easter eggs.

“I will say there’s going to be a lot of blood and similarities,” Diamond, 25, exclusively told Us Weekly about the finale, which airs Wednesday, October 30. “It will be fun.”

The actress, who plays Sister Megan (and now Detective Megan), hinted that viewers would love how the FX series connects all the dots, adding, “I hope that people will go back and want to rewatch [episodes] 1 through 7 to see the real shot-by-shot comparison that we did in some of these scenes. I think it will be remarkably satisfying.”

Grotesquerie followed Detective Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash) as she worked with local nun Sister Megan to figure out who was behind a series of heinous crimes in their community. More than halfway through the season, fans were asked to forget what they saw in the first six episodes — none of it took place anywhere except in Lois’ mind because she was the one who was actually in a coma.

Television pioneer Ryan Murphy has been creating, writing, directing and producing Emmy-winning series for over two decades — and now has so many shows on the air that it feels like he’s everywhere. After cocreating the cult teen dramedy Popular in 1999, Murphy made his debut as a solo creator with the FX drama Nip/Tuck, […]

“There’s so many [Easter eggs]. I’m thinking of episode 3 when we have a will they [or] won’t they scene with Nicholas [Chavez], who plays Father Charlie. That scene can be interpreted many ways,” she explained. “It could possibly be a version of cosplay — in a way — that she comes to him all the time with papers and that’s the way they get off on each other. It’s kind of her finding the loophole of doing good work for her boss.”

Diamond praised creator Ryan Murphy for how he pulled off the narrative shake-up.

“The script really did a lot of that work for me. Of course there’s little things like I have a bruise in episode 2 that kind of foreshadows the abuse in my life that Lois knows about. Even though I’ve desperately tried to keep this secret with big sunglasses,” she noted. “There’s also the way the color of my socks are different for various moments. There’s tiny things that kind of pin to a bigger idea that this is a dream. We’re in a heightened place.”

While the show didn’t let the audience in on the twist, Diamond was fortunate enough to know before she started filming her scenes, sharing, “I had some awareness of where Megan’s arc was going, which was helpful. Detective Megan is in a way a version of Sister Megan. She’s quite a tired version of her.”

It’s the busiest time of the TV year with shows such as Grotesquerie and The Perfect Couple kicking off the fall season. The Perfect Couple, which is based on Elin Hilderbrand‘s novel of the same name, centers around a wedding weekend in Nantucket that doesn’t go exactly as planned. Most of the details have been […]

Diamond said she hoped for the subtle differences between Detective Megan and Sister Megan to shine through.

“All we can do as actors is just take the circumstances we have and trust the directors and editors to kind of sculpt the story around it,” she told Us. “Hopefully you see a big physical difference. Sister Megan was incredibly perky, a workaholic, obsessed with her job and horny. Detective Megan is quite over it. But there’s definitely a through line between both of them.”

After getting the chance to collaborate with Murphy, 58, Diamond would love the opportunity to do more with the prolific producer, adding, “I would be honored to work with Ryan again. He is such a God in our world, has such a range of styles and gives actors so many amazing opportunities to stretch themselves. I feel like this was such an example of that for me. I really hope to be a part of his troop.”

Grotesquerie airs on FX Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET. New episodes stream on Hulu the next day.
