Sutton Foster Files for Divorce From Husband Ted Griffin
Sutton Foster and husband Ted Griffin have split after nearly 10 years of marriage.
Foster, 49, filed for uncontested divorce from Griffin, 53, in the New York County Supreme Court on Tuesday, October 22, Us Weekly can confirm.
News of their divorce comes just days before their 10th wedding anniversary, which falls on October 25. The pair share daughter Emily, 7, whom they welcomed via adoption in April 2017.
Us Weekly has reached out to Foster and Griffin for comment.
Foster and Griffin, who met via a blind date, tied the knot in Santa Barbara, California in October 2014 after gettingengaged one year prior. Before walking down the aisle, the Younger alum picked out her wedding gown on an episode of TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress.
In Foster’s 25 Things You Don’t Know About Me interview with Us, the Broadway star opened up about the moment she knew Griffin was The One.
“I knew I was going to marry my husband [Ted Griffin] when he bought me a pair of sweatpants,” she told Us in July 2019. “I still wear them and will probably keep wearing them until they turn to dust.”
Three years after getting married, Foster and Griffin decided to expand their family by adopting their daughter. Foster shared in a 2021 essay written for People that she and Griffin struggled with fertility issues.
“When I met my husband, it was the first time that I finally went, ‘Oh, I get it. I understand why people have families.’ But I was 39 when we got married and I never even thought …I mean, I’d spent my entire life trying not to get pregnant,” she penned. “So the minute I tried to get pregnant, I was like, ‘Oh, it’s going to be so easy.’ But it wasn’t easy for us.”
Foster went through a couple rounds of IVF which were unsuccessful so they turned to adoption.
“We had all these roadblocks, but as soon as we started pursuing adoption, it was like the roadblocks were going away. I can look back on it now with perspective and clarity,” she shared. “It was like our daughter was cannonballing towards us, and we just needed to get out of our own way. The universe was like, “Will you just [stand back] — I got this!”
Foster added that the process of welcoming Emily was a “pretty remarkable journey” for her and Griffin to complete their family.
“She was the missing piece,” she reflected. “I just can’t imagine life without her. I feel so blessed that an incredibly brave and strong woman entrusted us to raise her.”
Before Griffin, Foster was previously married to college sweetheart Christian Borle from 2006 to 2009.
