Jenna Fischer Rocks ‘Patchy Pixie’ Hair Following Breast Cancer News
Since announcing that she was diagnosed with breast cancer late last year, Jenna Fischer has been flooded with support from fans and famous friends — and now the actress has enjoyed a well-deserved night of fun at the Green Day musical.
The 50 year old star of The Office revealed last week (October 8) that she has recently completed treatment for Stage 1 Triple Negative Breast Cancer, letting her Instagram followers know that she is now thankfully cancer-free after undergoing surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
Fischer said she was eager to show fans how “happy and healthy” she is, complete with her new “patchy pixie” hair, following several months of treatment after her diagnosis in December 2023.
And now that she’s gone public with her news, she’s able to rock that ‘do wherever she wants: this weekend she shared another cute shot, along with a write-up of the American Idiot musical she watched in Los Angeles on Saturday (October 12). Fischer shouted out the “amazing cast” of deaf actors in the rock opera which honors her favorite Green Day album.
Fischer revealed via Instagram that she wore wigs and hats with hair (“which my family affectionately call Wigats”) until she was ready to reveal what she had been through. She chose to share her news during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to encourage other women to go for regular mammograms. “My tumor was so small it could not be felt on a physical exam,” she said. “If I had waited six months longer, things could have been much worse.”
The actress also said she’s had an “amazing village” of friends and family supporting her through her cancer journey. “Each person had their own special way of caring for us,” she wrote. “Some people texted me every week of chemo, some took me for walks, picked up our kids from school, dropped off food, took me wig shopping, some sent prayers in the form of audio messages. Every gesture big and small was felt. All of it was perfect.”
Since sharing the news of her cancer diagnosis, Fischer has been truly inundated with kind and moving messages. On her original announcement post, her The Office co-star John Krasinski wrote “We love you! You’re amazing!” while her close friend Angela Kinsey, who played Angela in the acclaimed comedy, commented “I love you and I’m so glad you’re sharing. I got your back, always.”
Fischer said via Instagram that Kinsey was one of the first people who knew what was going on. “When I lost my hair, she wore hats to our work meetings so I wouldn’t be the only one,” she said.
Fischer has been married to Lee Kirk since 2010 and the couple have two children, a 13 year old son and a 10 year old daughter, who she said have been “great” at handling what their mom has been going through. “We got through this together,” she added.
Thousands of fans have also chipped in with supportive comments, telling the star she’s a “true warrior and hero” who looks “f—ing gorgeous” with her new short hair, as well as sharing their own cancer stories.
