Andy Cohen Says He Always Hopes Kyle Richards Will Stay on RHOBH
Andy Cohen “always” wants Kyle Richards to be a part of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
“I mean, I always hope she’ll stay,” Andy, 56, told Us Weekly exclusively while attending the NYC Ballet Fall Fashion Gala at Lincoln Center on Wednesday, October 9. The TV host went on to explain why fans love to watch Kyle on the show.
“I think she lets people in. I think she translates the world of Beverly Hills to the viewer and has for a long time,” he said. “She’s been aspirational and relatable, yet her life is totally glamorous.”
Andy hadn’t previously heard about Kyle, 55, being named the Us Weekly Reality Star of the Year — but seemed on board with the choice.
The Bravo boss told Us that Kyle’s “glamorous” life is “something we want to watch,” which is what keeps RHOBH viewers coming back for more.
“We laugh with her, and we cry with her, and we look at her as a mom and a sister and a friend,” he added. “We can identify with her in all those roles.”
Kyle is currently one of the longest-running Housewives on Bravo. While she’s always offered cameras an inside look at her personal life, things got real for the RHOBH star during season 13 when her split from her husband of 27 years, Mauricio Umansky, was shown on the reality series earlier this year.
“Being on TV, you don’t have the luxury of choosing what you show. The stuff with my marriage was hard enough to go through without cameras,” Kyle told Us in her recent cover story. “At the time, my husband was not prepared to share anything, so it came off strange and that was hard. When I started talking more openly about it, I felt a lot better.”
A teaser trailer for the forthcoming 14th season has since shown Kyle threatening to quit the show.
“I had a meltdown. My first in 14 years. I was like, ‘I don’t think I can physically do this anymore,’” she teased. “I walked off the set and didn’t shoot the next day. I was at my breaking point. I have so much on my plate, and some of the women just push.”
She returned after needing “a break” from the cameras. (Kyle is returning to RHOBH season 14 alongside Erika Jayne, Dorit Kemsley, Garcelle Beauvais, Sutton Stracke and Kathy Hilton. Newcomers Bozoma Saint John and Jennifer Tilly round out the cast.)
“I think they saw [I was] really struggling and were reaching out to me,” Kyle explained, referring to her fellow castmates. “They actually helped me get through the rest of the season.”
