5 Top New Movies and TV Shows to Watch This Week on Netflix, Prime and More (December 8-12)

The second week of December brings a whole new batch of shows and movies to watch, and Watch With Us is rounding up the very best of the bunch.

First up on our list is one of our most anticipated movies of the year: the third installment in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out series, which brings Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) back for a brand-new mystery on Netflix.

Other picks include the streaming premieres of two more movies, F1 and Roofman, plus the second season in the Percy Jackson saga and a new comedy from the man most people know as Mr. Bean.

John Wilson/Netflix Benoit Blanc is officially back on the case. On Friday, May 24, director Rian Johnson dropped a teaser for the third installment of his Knives Out franchise called Wake Up Dead Man.  The 45-second clip revealed that Daniel Craig will return as private detective Blanc, reprising his role from the franchise’s first two […]

‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’ (2025)

Director Rian Johnson continues his beloved Knives Out series with his latest entry, Wake Up Dead Man. This third film follows Detective Benoit Blanc as he investigates a case involving a murdered monsignor. When a young priest named Jud Duplenticy (Josh O’Connor) goes to work for seasoned Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Josh Brolin), Wicks turns up dead soon after, and all eyes are on Jud as the prime suspect.

With a brand-new twisty story complete with a compelling religious angle and a scene-stealing performance from O’Connor, Wake Up Dead Man is yet another home run in an already winning film franchise. Some critics felt that Wake Up Dead Man proved to be more refreshingly introspective than the previous Knives Out films, while still featuring its signature quirky characters and a tension-filled mystery.

Stream Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery on December 12 on Netflix.

‘F1’ (2025)

Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) was at the top of his game racing in Formula 1 during the 1990s, but a career-ending accident took him out of the race for good. However, when a struggling F1 team needs a top-notch racer, Sonny is convinced to go back to his roots thirty years after he left them. While butting heads with the team’s brash rookie (Damson Idris), Sonny must figure out how to adapt to a new world of racing if he’s to bring the team to victory.

While jam-packed with some familiar sports film cliches, F1 features exciting direction from Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) and an always-charismatic showing from Pitt. Ultimately, F1 succeeds best as a fun, visually stimulating racing film that is light on plot and character depth, but still draws you in with its performances, excellent racing sequences and a killer Hans Zimmer score.

Stream F1 on December 12 on Apple TV.

‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Season 2

After the mixed bag that was the Percy Jackson movies, fans found themselves much more satisfied with this streaming adaptation of the beloved YA novels, praising it for its faithfulness to the books and the core performances from its young, mostly unknown cast. Season 1 sees titular demigod Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) accused of stealing Zeus’ (Lance Reddick) thunderbolt, and in season 2, he must save Camp Half-Blood from Kronos (Nick Boraine).

For many fans, Percy Jackson and the Olympians rights the wrongs of the Logan Lerman-starring movies from the 2010s by succeeding as a faithful adaptation of Rick Riordan’s novels and a genuinely compelling mashup of Greek myth and coming-of-age drama. The show has been praised in particular for its writing and inclusive cast and is one of Disney+’s biggest streaming-first hits.

Stream Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 on Hulu on December 10.

‘Roofman’ (2025)

Based on an absurd true story, Roofman chronicles a former soldier and professional thief named Jeffrey Manchester (Channing Tatum), who escapes from prison and manages to find a hideout inside a Toys ‘R’ Us. Remaining undetected and living inside the store for months, Jeffrey ends up falling for a divorced mom (Kirsten Dunst), and he soon finds himself struggling to balance this dangerous double life.

Roofman cements Channing Tatum as a reliable leading man, playing perfectly off his natural charm, charisma and comedic skills. Together with Dunst, the two A-list stars showcase some real heartfelt chemistry, and director Derek Cianfrance moves away from the melodrama of Blue Valentine to tell a touching, playful story about starting over again.

Stream Roofman on December 9 on Paramount+.

‘Man vs. Baby’ Season 1

You may best know him as Mr. Bean (or the annoying gift wrapper in Love Actually), but Rowan Atkinson created, stars in and co-writes a brand-new Netflix original series in which the middle-aged actor faces off against a baby. With his character first established in 2022’s Man vs. Bee, Atkinson’s Trevor Bingley now finds himself left to care for a baby in a luxurious penthouse over the holidays.

Netflix (3) Netflix is making 2025 their biggest year yet with major TV, movie and true crime releases in the works. On the small screen, the streaming service has a mix of returning and new TV shows on their upcoming slate. Stranger Things is the most anticipated release, with the hit series returning for its […]

Both critics and audiences enjoyed the hijinks from Man vs. Bee, so there are high hopes that this four-part sequel will prove to be a more than worthy successor. Atkinson still manages to be one of the best slapstick comedians still working, and the Man vs… series is a fantastic showcase of his physical comedy skills, even in the absence of his Bean alias.
