3 New to Prime Video Movies I’m Watching This Weekend (December 5-7)

Where else but Prime Video can you start the holiday season with Michelle Pfeiffer, a fussy Belgian detective and not one, but two Leonardo DiCaprios?

That’s what you’ll get if you watch all the movies on Watch With Us’ new-to-Prime movie weekend list.

The former Catwoman headlines the new holiday comedy Oh. What. Fun., which is perfect for fans of the Diane Keaton comedy The Family Stone.

Mystery aficionados will have a hoot discovering Death on the Nile, while everyone should check out the underrated adventure tale, The Man in the Iron Mask.

‘Oh. What. Fun.’ (2025)

We all know people like Claire Clauster (Michelle Pfeiffer). Well-meaning but super controlling, they take charge of any situation they’re in — especially around the holidays. But after raising three children and tending to her hapless husband, Nick (Denis Leary), Claire has had enough. After getting left behind by the entire family one day, she decides to take an impromptu road trip to California to meet her idol, talk show host Zazzy Tims (Eva Longoria). It’s a bold move, but will her disorganized family give her the love and attention she needs now more than ever?

Oh. What. Fun. is your standard holiday movie about an upper-middle-class family with first-class problems. No one’s worrying about their health plan or inflation in this movie, which is largely why it’s so appealing. It’s escapist fare that’s made easy by its appealing cast. Led by a still-radiant Pfeiffer, the Clauster brood is a dysfunctional but lovable family you’d want to spend some time with this December.

‘Death on the Nile’ (2022)

Kenneth Branagh’s remake of the Agatha Christie classic Death on the Nile is best known nowadays as a prime showcase of Gal Gadot’s questionable acting, exemplified by her now-campy delivery of the line, “With enough champagne to fill the Nile!” But the 2022 reimagining is more than just a source material for viral memes — it’s also a lavishly produced murder mystery filled with actors you recognize right away and others you want to get to know better after the movie is over.

On a riverboat sailing down the Nile, master detective Hercule Poirot (Branagh) must solve the violent murder of beautiful heiress Linnet Ridgeway-Doyle (Gadot). Was it her new husband, Simon Doyle (Armie Hammer)? Or famous jazz singer Salome Osbourne (Sophie Okonedo), who has something to hide? There are over half a dozen suspects Hercule has to interview and investigate to solve the mystery, and he’ll have to do it quickly before the murderer claims another victim.

Death on the Nile is a refreshingly old-fashioned murder mystery that flaunts its big budget and stars like a classic Hollywood film. The suspense plot is kinda absurd, but blame that on Christie, who whipped up a doozy of a mystery with a reveal that’s both shocking and unbelievable. Among the starry cast, it’s Okenedo who emerges as the most memorable as a musician looking to reclaim her lost mojo.

‘The Man in the Iron Mask’ (1998)

How do you follow up starring in the biggest movie ever made? That’s the question everyone was asking in early 1998, when Leonardo DiCaprio’s new movie, The Man in the Iron Mask, was released while his last film, Titanic, was still breaking box office records. In this very loose adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ Three Musketeers novels, DiCaprio stars as both the spoiled King Louis XIV and his twin brother, Philippe Bourbon, who has been locked away with his face hidden by an iron-clad mask.

With King Louis bankrupting France and killing anyone who opposes him, Jesuit clergyman Armais (Jeremy Irons) recruits fellow musketeers Athos (John Malkovich), Porthos (Gerard Depardieu) and D’Artagnan (Gabriel Byrne) to rescue Philippe from his prison and eventually replace Louis with his lookalike brother. That’s easier said than done, as Louis is protected 24/7 and is paranoid about any possible attempts to depose him. Can the four musketeers save the day once again?

Like its source material, The Man in the Iron Mask is a sweeping adventure tale that blends outrageous fantasy with actual history. The cast of veteran actors has a ball playing long-in-the-tooth heroes who are game for one last mission, while DiCaprio is convincing playing two different sides of the same royal coin. Whether deliciously nasty or impossibly naive, his dual performance showcases the breadth and range that would make him one of the best actors of his generation.
