Patrick Mahomes Says New Haircut Makes Him Look ‘Way Better’

Patrick Mahomes’ cropped haircut was a long time coming — and he’s happy with the results.
“I’ve wanted to do it for a while, but it was kind of one of those superstitions [of] ‘I can’t win the Super Bowl,’” the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, 29, told sports reporter Rob Collins in a Wednesday, April 23, interview. “I didn’t want to do it [before]. I told everybody during the season that, win or lose, if you win three in a row or if we lose, I’m getting a haircut.”
Mahomes and the Chiefs did make it to their third consecutive Super Bowl in February, but ultimately lost to the Philadelphia Eagles. (The Chiefs won the big game in 2023 and 2024, respectively.)
Once the Super Bowl was over, Mahomes couldn’t wait to ask his barber to cut off his locks.
“I’m very excited. I’ve looked at clips and videos from last year, and I can’t believe all you guys let me keep that nappy hair for so long,” he quipped. “I look way better now with the short hair. So, I’ll be keeping this going forward.”
Mahomes, however, initially wanted an even more drastic cut.
“The whole time that I’ve been cutting his hair, he just lets me do what I do,” Mahomes’ longtime barber, DeJuan Bonds, exclusively told Us Weekly in February. “But when he asked for a change, he basically was like, ‘Just cut me all off.’ I was like, ‘No, no, no. We’re not just going to cut it all off.’ We’re actually going to collab on this and go a little bit at a time, take it a little bit down.”
According to Bonds, he and Mahomes ultimately reached a “collaboration” on the ideal length.
“A lot of people have mixed reviews about his hair and how they wanted him to cut it off or how they wanted him to keep it,” Bonds said, going on to gush about his longtime client. “He is definitely one of the most humble athletes I’ve run across. I’ve been dealing with athletes for probably 20 years. I don’t know why he’s so humble, I really don’t. He’s special. That’s just who he is.”
