Richard Gere’s boys! The Pretty Woman star has long gushed about raising sons with wife Alejandra Silva and ex-wife Carey Lowell.
“I never had an issue about children one way or the other,” Gere told The Guardian about fatherhood in a 2002 interview. “With Carey, she had a child from a previous marriage [daughter Hannah Dunne], and it was just a natural thing, caring for this child [and] having our own child. It was totally spontaneous and right.”
Lowell — who welcomed her firstborn in April 1990 with ex-husband Griffin Dunne — and the Runaway Bride star expanded their family in February 2000, welcoming son Homer.
“I was supposed to be in the delivery room, but it was a C-section and that was tense,” Gere recalled to Hollywood.com in September 2000 of his eldest son’s arrival. “Homer is my father’s name, which pleases him a little. … [Carey and I] having such a great time with our little boy.”
Lowell and Gere, who wed in 2002, ultimately separated nearly 11 years later. The Maybe I Do actor — who was previously married to Cindy Crawford between 1991 and 1995— later moved on with Silva. Us Weekly confirmed in 2018 that the duo had secretly wed in an intimate civil ceremony that April after three years of dating.
“I feel like I’m in a true fairy tale,” the political activist told Hello! magazine in March 2019 of their nuptials. “Without a doubt, I feel like the luckiest woman in the world. What could be more romantic than a man who writes you songs every day?”
She continued at the time: “He is the most humble, sensitive, affectionate, attentive, funny, generous man that I’ve ever met. What can I say? I’m so in love! How would you feel if each morning you were asked, ‘What would make you happy today?’ Not a day goes by that he doesn’t mention how important I am to him. I feel very lucky.”
Silva — who coparents son Albert, born in December 2012, with ex-husband Govind Friedland — and the Shall We Dance? actor announced in August 2018 that they were expecting their first child together. Son Alexander was born in February 2019. Nearly one year later, the publicist gave birth to another baby boy. The couple’s second child together, whose name has not been publicly shared, was born in April 2020.
Gere, Silva and their blended family primarily live a relatively private life at their Pound Ridge, New York, compound. Silva, for her part, has shared brief glimpses of her brood via her Instagram page.
