Kit Harington and Rose Leslie’s Relationship Timeline

Love on the set! Kit Harington and Rose Leslie met while filming season 2 of Game of Thrones in 2011.

While Harington starred as Jon Show in the HBO hit, Leslie made several appearances as Ygritte during seasons 2 to 4. While the actress’ character was killed off in 2014, the twosome had begun an offscreen romance.

After briefly calling it quits in 2013, Us Weekly broke the news that Harington and Leslie were back on in the summer of 2014. The Pompeii star later spoke candidly about falling for his costar in an interview with Vogue Italia.

“Because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love,” Harington gushed in May 2016. “If you’re already attracted to someone and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love.”

Five years into their romance, the How to Train Your Dragon voice actor got down on one knee and proposed to his longtime love. While Leslie accepted, Harington revealed during an October 2017 interview that he fumbled the big moment.

“I did have some plans to do it, I was going to string up some lights in some trees and do all the romantic stuff …” he told British TV host Jonathan Ross. “But we were in the country and we were under this beautiful night sky and had a log fire burning and red wine, and I blew my load early. … Sorry, that’s a really bad expression!”

“I was meant to do it the day after with the lights. What I meant to say was, I popped my question a bit early,” Harington clarified. “Not blew my load.”

The twosome exchanged vows in June 2018. Three months later, Harington gushed about his wife backstage at the 2018 Emmy Awards.

“I met my wife in this show, so in that way it gave me my future family, and my life from here on in,” he said in September 2018. “That’s the main thing it did for me, and it’s changed it completely.”

Us confirmed in February 2021 that the lovebirds expanded their family, welcoming a baby boy five months after Leslie revealed she was pregnant.

While the duo’s love story is magical for GoT fans, Harington and Leslie have gone through their ups and downs.

Harington and Leslie met while filming season 2 of Game of Thrones. 

The costars confirmed dating rumors when they were spotted out together in London in August 2012.

After a year of dating, Harington and Leslie ended their romance in August 2013.

Us broke the news in August 2014 that Harington and Leslie had reunited three months earlier. “It’s casual right now and they’re having fun,” an insider told Us at the time. “They’re not moving in together or anything like that yet.” 

The twosome packed on the PDA during their red carpet debut at the 2016 Olivier Awards in London in April 2016. 

After dating on and off for five years, Harington and Leslie confirmed their engagement in September 2017.

“Mr. K.C. Harington and Miss R.E. Leslie,” the post in The Times’ “Forthcoming Marriages” section read. “The engagement is announced between Kit, younger son of David and Deborah Harington of Worcestershire, and Rose, middle daughter of Sebastian and Candy Leslie of Aberdeenshire.”

Five months after their nuptials, a Russian model Olga Vlaslova claimed she had an affair with the actor. Harington’s rep denied the reports in a statement to Us in November 2018. 

“The allegations in this story are completely false,” the statement read. “He’s never even been to Luxembourg nor has he ever met Olga Vlaslova.” 

After the cheating rumors, the spouses put up a united front during Harington’s appearance on Saturday Night Live. In addition to exchanging “I love yous” during his opening monologue, the couple shared a kiss at the end of the April 2019 episode. 

Weeks after the Game of Thrones series finale aired, news broke that Harington sought professional help at a treatment facility. “Kit has decided to utilize this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues,” his rep said in a statement to Us in May 2019. 

An insider told Us at the time that Harington “went to treatment” for Leslie.“He was living a very unhealthy lifestyle. He was stressed all the time and using unhealthy coping tools,” the insider said. “[She] loves him very much.She had been telling him to get into treatment for a little while now.”  

Leslie revealed that she was pregnant with the couple’s first child in September 2020, showing off her baby bump in a long black dress in U.K.’s Make magazine.

Leslie gushed about expecting her first child with Harington, telling The New York Post, “I am thrilled to be expecting, and I can’t wait to meet the new member of our family!” 

“They have had a baby boy and are very, very happy,” Harington’s rep confirmed to Us, announcing the arrival of the couple’s first child.

“Every day, I wake up and I look after this little human and now we’re part of a unit together,” the Eternals actor told Access Hollywood. “I think the thing that surprises me most about fatherhood is you are now a unit, the three of you, and that’s a whole new dynamic you need to find. I pretty much find every day as he grows and changes, how does that change you? It’s a beautiful thing, it really is.”

Harington and Leslie wore Saint Laurent and Oscar de la Renta, respectively, at the 2021 Met Gala in September.

“There were many satisfying moments,” Leslie told Harper’s Bazaar U.K. of watching her spouse with their child. “We had an understanding that when our son cried in the middle of the night, it was on Kit to go and look after him, as I would have to wake up early to work. It was kind of glorious.”

“I think being in a relationship and knowing that you have a supportive partner can only lend itself to feeling more secure in in yourself, and therefore, hopefully, kind of growing together into two people who are more anchored,” she told Extra in May 2022 about taking inspiration from her personal life for The Time Traveler’s Wife.
