Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos Give Virtual Tour of NYC Townhouse
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos worked closely with designer William Sofield to customize their opulent townhouse on New York City’s Upper East Side — and they have no intention of leaving.
“We’ve moved several times in our lives, but no matter where we go, for me, this is my forever home,” Ripa, 54, said during an Architectural Digest video tour of the home released on Tuesday, December 10. “When I walked in here, I was like, ‘This is the final place where I will live.’ I love this house so much.”
Ripa and Consuelos, 53, purchased the five-bedroom, six-bathroom townhouse in 2013. Ripa told AD that it has since become their “favorite place on Earth.”
The couple’s virtual tour began in Consuelos’ cigar lounge, which they wanted to feel like “1970s New York meets 1920s Paris.” Thanks to a special ventilation system that draws smoke out of the room, Ripa said the lounge never smells like smoke and has become a go-to spot for cocktail parties and sports viewings. The man cave features a black leather couch, photographs of Formula 1 cars, and dark-colored walls.
Ripa and Consuelos’ bedroom, by contrast, has white walls and light-colored furniture. Consuelos explained that the twosome wanted their bedroom to have a similar vibe to a European hotel.
“It’s sexy, it’s peaceful, it’s quiet,” he explained.
Of all the rooms in the house, Ripa said the bedroom is where she spends most of her time. She wrote her 2022 book, Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories, at a desk by the window and wore out the chair so much that it had to be reupholstered.
While Ripa and Consuelos’ three kids — sons Michael, 27, and Joaquin, 21, and daughter Lola, 23 — are all grown up now, their bedrooms haven’t been repurposed. In fact, Ripa and Consuelos, who tied the knot in 1996, still share a closet and a bathroom.
“I just feel like you and I live well together,” Ripa told her husband.
The preserved childhood bedrooms aren’t the only thing that keep Ripa and Consuelos feeling close to their kids. Hanging on the hallway outside their bedroom are three giant portraits of each kid’s iris, painted by artist Marc Quinn.
“I could stare at my kids’ eyes forever. I just think they’re great,” Ripa said.
While the pair qualify as empty nesters, Ripa and Consuelos are far from lonely. While showing off their dining room, Ripa noted that “lots of Sunday Chinese food [dinners] with friends” take place there. She proudly pointed out the hidden lazy Susan at the center of the dining room table, which spins around so that guests can reach different shared dishes with ease.
“I’m lazier than most Susans,” Ripa joked.
The Live With Kelly and Mark cohosts ended the tour in their spacious kitchen, which Ripa called the “heart and soul” of the townhouse. Consuelos recalled going to quarries with Sofield to help pick out the white stone for the kitchen island’s countertop.
“It was fun,” he said.
Ripa, meanwhile, pointed out the “not quite opaque, mildly translucent cabinets,” which provide a limited view of the dishes inside.
“[They] keep us honest. We are forced to be organized,” she quipped.
Consuelos also expressed his affinity for the white plastered range hood, which transformed the kitchen appliance from “industrial” looking to elegant. Ripa noted that while her husband used to prefer “austere, minimalist spaces,” his tastes have evolved.
“Moving uptown changed you,” she said. “[It] turned you into a gentleman.”
