Taylor Swift Performs Mashup of Joe Jonas Breakup Songs on Eras Tour
Taylor Swift’s latest Eras Tour surprise song mashup featured two of her most beloved breakup tracks — both rumored to be about her ex Joe Jonas.
When Swift, 34, resumed her Eras Tour shows in Toronto, on Thursday, November 21, she grabbed her guitar to sing an acoustic mashup of “Mr. Perfectly Fine” from Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and “Better Than Revenge” from Speak Now during the surprise songs set.
“Time for a little revenge,” Swift teased in footage shared via social media while transitioning between the first and second tracks.
The Grammy winner dated Jonas, 35, for several months in 2008 before he famously ended their relationship in a 27-second phone call. She released her second studio album, Fearless, later that year, followed by Speak Now in 2010.
“Mr. Perfectly Fine” was not featured on the original Fearless album but was one of several vault songs released on the rerecorded version in 2021. “But that was when I got to know Mr. ‘Change of heart’ / Mr. ‘Leaves me all alone,’ I fall apart / It takes everything in me just to get up each day / But it’s wonderful to see that you’re OK,” she sings before the chorus.
Jonas moved on with Camilla Belle shortly after splitting from Swift, and fans have long suspected the relationship inspired “Better Than Revenge” from Swift’s third album. “The story starts when it was hot and it was summer and / I had it all, I had him right there where I wanted him,” she sings in the first verse. “She came along, got him alone, and let’s hear the applause / She took him faster than you can say ‘sabotage.’”
When Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) was released in 2023, Swift notably changed her lyrics. Instead of singing “she’s better known for the things that she does on the mattress,” she tweaked the line to “he was a moth to the flame, she was holding the matches.”
Swift and Jonas eventually set aside their differences in recent years — and according to her Folklore song “Invisible String,” she even sent presents when her ex welcomed his children with Sophie Turner. Swift went on to lend her New York City apartment to Turner, 28, amid her divorce from Jonas in September 2023. (The former spouses finalized their divorce earlier this year.)
Swifties joked that Thursday night’s mashup in Toronto was a nod to her friendship with Turner. “Sophie Turner’s special request,” one fan tweeted, while another wrote, “Mr. perfectly fine x Better than revenge, somewhere in New Jersey Joe Jonas is waking up in a cold sweat and Sophie Turner smiles!!!”
Swift followed up the Jonas-inspired songs with a piano mashup of Red’s “State of Grace” and Midnights’ “Labyrinth.” The Eras Tour continues in Toronto until Saturday, November 23, after which the pop star will take a week-long break. She performs her final three Eras Tour shows in Vancouver from December 6 to December 8.
